Dog-Friendly Guide to Pembrokeshire

At Preseli Venture, dogs aren’t just welcome, they’re part of the adventure: from woodland trails that lead straight from your doorstep to the beach, to cosy, practical spaces designed with paws in mind.

Stay at Preseli Venture

The Eco Barn and Courtyard Cottages happily welcome dogs. Expect smart, dog-friendly details:

  • Private and communal outdoor spaces for sniffs and sunshine.
  • Functional utility areas to stow sandy kit, muddy wellies, and dog gear.
  • Dog towels provided for salty swims, rainy days, and mucky paws.
  • Welcome pack with local pet suppliers, groomers, vets, and daycare, a curated list of dog-friendly cafés, pubs and restaurants as well as clear guidance on seasonal beach restrictions so you can plan stress-free days out.

Stay at Preseli Glamping

If canvas is more your style, dogs are welcome in the woodland geodome and across all camping pitches at Preseli Glamping. There’s a grassy morning-stroll area amongst the saplings and wildflower meadow, and the same beautiful walk to our Abermawr beach and the Pembrokeshire coast path. What’s more, dogs camp for free!

Walks From the Door

Step outside and you’re on your way to two wild beaches:

  • Abermawr – a sweeping sand-and-shingle bay with a huge sandy runway at low tide for joyous zoomies.
  • Aberbach – a smaller, sheltered sister cove that’s perfect for picnics and playing in the stream.

Stroll the National Trust woodland (great for safe off-lead time where appropriate), then join the Pembrokeshire Coast Path for clifftop vistas. Make it a circular walk via Melin Tregwynt—a traditional woollen mill with an outdoor café area that welcomes dogs in the outdoor seating area.

Dog-friendly Adventures

Can’t bear to leave your pup behind on adventures? Here are our top Pembrokeshire activities that welcome dogs:

  • Kayaking and Canoeing Experiences: Can’t bear to leave the pup behind? Get in touch to discuss bringing a water-confident dog on a private sea kayaking or canoeing session (dog lifejackets recommended).
  • Boat Trips: Well-behaved dogs are welcome on the Ramsey Island Voyage and the Fishguard Bay to Strumble Head Voyage (at the skipper’s discretion). A magical way to see the coast together.
  • Llys-y-Frân (day trip): Hit mountain-biking and hiking trails and try the dog agility arena—great enrichment for energetic pups.
  • Big Beach Day (20-minute drive): A two-mile sandy beach that’s perfect for long fetch sessions. Note: seasonal dog restrictions apply to a short central stretch in summer—clearly signed on arrival.
  • Castles on Leads: Pembroke Castle and Carew Castle welcome dogs on leads (check details before you go).

Dining with Dogs

  • The Farmers Arms in Mathry: A dog-friendly village pub is just 1 mile via lane and bridleway — dogs can join you inside and out. Think hearty meals, roaring open fire, and a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Melin Tregwynt café: Dogs welcome outdoors at this historic brook-side woollen mill cafe.
  • More nearby spots: Your accommodation welcome pack lists the best dog-friendly cafés, pubs and restaurants in the area.
  • Treat stop: Swing by the Pembrokeshire Pet Bakery for a special pup-approved bake, or Pointz Castle ice cream parlour for a doggie ice cream.
  • Pack a picnic: Feast alfresco with your four-legged friends and take in the cinematic coastal vistas.

Travel Responsibly: Follow The Canine Code

We work in partnership with the National Trust and Pembrokeshire Coast National Park to protect wildlife and habitats. Please follow the Canine Code: keep dogs on leads near livestock and cliffs, give wildlife space (especially ground-nesting birds and seal pups in autumn), bag it and bin it, and stick to paths where requested. Find out more here.
