Penbwchdy Cottage
A heritage farmhouse-cottage for coastal gatherings in North Pembrokeshire

Rooted in the landscape.
This coastal cottage borrows its name from Penbwchdy, the craggy headland (visible from the cottage), thrusting seaward beneath the striking silhouette of Garn Fawr: two bold remnants of ancient volcanic activity. The Welsh name—pen (head/point) + bwch (buck) + du (black)—nods to the sure-footed black billy goats once seen grazing these steep gorse- and heather-clad cliffs.
Tucked into the Abermawr Valley on the wild North Pembrokeshire coast, midway between Fishguard and St Davids, Penbwchdy Cottage is part of a traditional courtyard of cottages surrounded by pastoral landscapes which gently meander down to the sea. A 20-minute woodland wander brings you to Abermawr beach, perfect for picnics, swims, and frolics with your four-legged friend. Pick up the Pembrokeshire Coast Path for a cinematic cliff-top hike, or loop inland via Melin Tregwynt for lunch and a browse in the woollen mill shop.

A cottage with history.
Originally a mid-1800s stone cottage (the present kitchen and living room were the original two rooms), Penbwchdy has been lovingly restored for contemporary comfort while retaining its vernacular charm: low ceilings, thick walls, an exposed stone feature wall and real oak floors, all set snugly into the hillside.
Space to gather.
The living room is made for easy company: a traditional wood-burning stove, two generous leather sofas and a characterful old Welsh “settle”. This is a cosy place for stories, board games and unwinding after the day’s adventures. Wi-Fi runs throughout and the Smart TV is ready for cosy movie nights.

The heart of the home.
A contemporary kitchen with a traditional feel features an electric oven with a 5-burner electric hob, dishwasher, microwave and a large fridge/freezer. Facilitating feasts at the handsome oak kitchen table, beneath a quirky kayak-paddle light, this is the kind of room that lingers into long breakfasts and late suppers.
Add a homely welcome hamper when you book, including fresh local milk, freshly baked bread, a loaf of bara brith, free-range eggs and homemade jams and marmalades.
Feast al fresco.
To the rear, a sheltered cottage garden bursts with roses, Pyrenean lilies, daffodils and primroses. There’s a sunny lawn, picnic table, BBQ and firepit: the perfect sensory setting for alfresco meals and stargazing in our Dark Skies area. At the front, the quiet communal courtyard offers open and covered picnic tables, enchantingly lit by fairy lights on mellow evenings, with dazzling views of Penbwchdy headland where the pastoral valley meets the coast.
