What is the British Canoeing sea kayak leader award?
This award provides training for leaders and guides and is specific to the craft and water environment in which they operate. The course aims to provide the personal skill level and leadership ability required to lead a group of paddlers, on short, single or multi-day journeys in a moderate tidal water environment.
Preseli Venture deliver the two day BC sea kayak leader award training in personal skills, leadership and safety and rescue; followed by a separate two day assessment. The prerequisite, one day Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning, course is also available.
Your award programme will be delivered by our fully qualified kayak coaches, who live and breath sea kayaking. There is the option to stay cosy in our comfortable 5 star graded eco lodge accommodation. All your food for the event can be provided, meals are home cooked and delicious and vegetarians and special diets are happily catered for.
We are a professional eco-adventure centre, with BC accreditation, a fantastic purpose built equipment stores and changing facilities here on site, together with minibus transport to take you from the eco lodge to the nearby sea kayaking venues on the coast.
British Canoeing sea kayak leader award
Undertaken in a modern sea kayak, this discipline specific test is designed to indicate that the candidate has the skill level to safely paddle and lead other competent paddlers on sections of moderate water. A sea kayak leader will have the all-round paddling ability, safety, rescue and basic leadership required to undertake trips on sheltered to moderate water with a group of paddlers who have the basic paddling skills required, but not necessarily the experience, to operate in a self-sufficient manner. The syllabus can be found on the BC website.

Reviewed 20 August 2015 ★★★★★
As a keen kayaker the staff, boats and set-up was great. Really had good days paddling plus learnt something from all the instructors/guides who helped me with my technique. For the price, would really recommend it and the coastline is amazing.
